DSCN3037.JPG (396892 bytes)DSCN3038.JPG (432540 bytes)I think this 19th Century ring is Ecclesiastical, but I am open to correction.  The outer band has three red enamelled Maltese crosses on slightly raised oval domes and these divide the longer sections which have the blue enamel letters  'I D S' each of which must represent the first three words of a Latin motto or prayer.  The inner band is enamelled with a single Maltese cross and the Gold tests as 18ct.  Possibly English, circa 1880

A Gold ring with a Diamond halo.  The robed and decorated figure with a serene expression, wearing a headdress with long trailing fabric, raised shoulder garment and a necklace.  The figure is framed in Gold granulation work and above, a Silver and Rose Diamond halo which may be an addition.  Here are various opinions that have been offered by colleagues: Its Venetian, 17th Century, Its Art Nouveau 19th Century, Its by Byzantine, 7th Century, Its Russian 18th Century, etc... but I have also been told that this ring came from the island of Corfu and was given to a bishop there by his congregation in about 1888/90.  I am offering this unusual ring as 18ct Gold, Rose Diamonds and at least 100 years old.

A fine portrait cameo of Jesus Christ, carved from Garnet in the early 17th Century, in a Regency ring mount.  I am told that three quarter portraits of this period are rare, being usually profiles or full face.  The cameo, including the nose is in good condition, there is a small chip on the setting edge at just above three o'clock and two small chips on the reverse setting edge.  A rare and fine ring.  The cameo, probably Italian circa 1620, the ring mount, English, circa 1800

DSCN2899.JPG (361435 bytes)DSCN2902.JPG (400808 bytes) This splendid and ornate ring was probably owned and worn by a Portuguese Bishop in the 19th century. It has various Gold marks on the outer shank including a cock’s head and a French Hibou (Owl) mark, so one could conclude that the ring was then worn by a French Prelate as the authorities insisted on marking the ring as imported and 18ct Gold.  Beneath the thick rectangular wine red Garnet is a large compartment that could have contained an important relic. Now vacant, it may be used for various 21st century needs. The lower bezel and shoulders are richly and deeply embossed with leaves, flowers and curling tendrils. An eye catching and interesting ring.  Portuguese circa 1850
