To the best of my knowledge, I have never owned an Antique Japanese Ring before. The subject is charming, being a quail feeding on millet. The quail is modelled in Platinum, being an early example of its use in Japan and the millet and ring shank are in high carat Gold 20 ct+.  The shank is folded and not soldered shut as a single piece so that the size can be adjusted easily and I have seen this design in antique Chinese soft Gold Rings also.  Behind the head is a double character mark stamped in a rectangle which i am told say's 'Junkin' which means 'Pure Gold' and a star mark containing a twin rod device, but I have no idea what this means although I would speculate that one of the marks is the signature of the maker. Japanese circa 1900
