A 19th century luminous Moonstone single stone Ring.

DSCN6390.JPG (394230 bytes)DSCN6394.JPG (405306 bytes)The mysterious cabochon Gem is set in a Silver collet to Gold shoulders and shank, stamped with makers mark and faint English hallmarks, only the date letter being readable. The source of these valuable misty blue moonstones is old Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and I am told that the only mine that produced them was “worked out” in the 1930’s.      English, circa 1897

Stock Pictures 256.jpg (411129 bytes)Stock Pictures 260.jpg (415173 bytes)A rich Royal Purple Amethyst, weighting approximately 4 carats and mounted in 14 carat Gold, the Amethyst is an old Siberian stone of fine colour that has been set in a circa 1900 Gold ring mount, stamped 14K and makers mark and I am pleased to tell you that the culet will touch your skin. If you visit my website regularly, you will know that I have an attachment to old Gem Stones that are cut in a generous way so that the tip at the back of the stone touches the skin of the wearer, thus enabling them unconsciously to absorb the qualities of the Gem, unproven by any official agency, but known to the rest of us for at least three thousand years.   Ring mount, American circa 1900   Amethyst circa 1830

An exceptional Diamond Signet Ring.  The octagonal cut Diamond weighting a little over 1 carat and of fine colour and clarity and set in a ring mount with geometrically shaped shoulders in unmarked 18 ct Gold.   The unusual shaped antique Diamond was probably originally in a European Royal Crown, which has been dismantled by reason of revolution, war or dept.   The Ring which it now adorns, was made around circa 1900 and none but the cognoscente would recognise that you were wearing something very special and a million miles from the usual “diamond on the finger”. English ring mount circa 1900 & Antique octagonal Diamond.

DSCN4094.JPG (376450 bytes)DSCN4095.JPG (382183 bytes)A deliciously sensual Gold and Black Diamond French Art Nouveau Ring. The two lithesome nymphs stand on tiptoe around the shank with their slightly turned heads adoringly nuzzling the setting edge of the fabled Magical Black Diamond whilst each girl rests her head on the palm of her left hand and the right hand, with masses of long hair swirling all around, appears to be fondling something hidden from our view. Both girls have nice rounded bottoms, slightly shiny and caused by, I imagine, being rubbed for good luck.  At the back of the shank where the girls feet meet, there is a double stamped devise which I do not recognise or identify; on the side of this area I can see some faint old file marks, so I can only speculate that at some point in this rings history, the signature and French Gold mark have been erased. (I can think of three reasons, which I will not expound upon here) It is inconceivable that a Ring of this quality and substance would not be signed by the maker and stamped with the French Governments poincon. A highly knowledgeable dealer in French Art Nouveau jewellery would be able to give a reliable opinion as to the maker of this wonderful Ring.  Black Diamonds, although modern ones are now obtainable strung into necklaces, were in past centuries, rather special and attributed with strong Magical powers. The two largest seem to have belonged to Russian émigré aristocrats and have been sold at auction, one in 1989 and the other a few years later, in the United States for huge sums of money. I have been recently told that a Black Diamond Ring is mentioned in Brideshead Revisited, but, sorry, I have not read it (yet)

An early Victorian Turquoise and Gold ring which seems to be a memorial ring, but certainly does not resemble the usual examples of such, other than behind the head is a  small locket and the inner shank is inscribed in charming copperplate script 'John Andrews, died Nov 9th 1841 aged 53'.  The Gold mount is unusual because it resembles the Tudor style of 300 years earlier, with long trefoil, ridged shoulders and a double scallop design at either end of the Turquoise.  This stone looks slightly heart shaped because of the position of the top claw and is a fine Persian blue.  Turquoise is probably the most ancient of protective gems and was the travelers required talisman 3,000 years before St Christopher, so it must have had some significance to the family of John Andrews.  This ring may be after a design by Augustus Pugin, the renowned 19th Century architect and creator of the Victorian Gothic style.  English circa 1841
