A Gold Skull set with Rose Diamond eyes, entwined by a Snake with a Diamond Head and Ruby set eyes with engraved snakeskin scaling, unmarked and testing as 14 carat Gold. To be honest, I do DSCN6667.JPG (377278 bytes)not know theDSCN6663.JPG (396011 bytes) age or origin of this ring, except that with the scaling worn at the back of the shank and a couple of patches of gold discolouration, all caused by regular wear, I could not date it other than to say made between 1900-1930. I have seen the subject of the Skull and the Snake in Medieval references and also in pictures of very early Memorial rings, but in the 20th century other than a few Hells Angels wearing the design as a tattoo, this is my first Gold and Diamond example. Probably English Circa 1930.

DSCN4533.JPG (393393 bytes)DSCN4534.JPG (429003 bytes)Quite a nice Sapphire in the head of this 2-row Snake Ring and he has a tiny rose diamond eye and looks sound asleep. Inside the band inscribed in old script, is a date; December 11th 1876 which probably makes this Snake a 19th Century engagement ring. Queen Victoria popularised the giving of Snake Rings as Engagement Rings by wearing a Diamond Set Snake ring designed by her future husband Prince Albert.  The ring is unmarked, tested as 18 ct Gold and could well become and Engagement Ring again!  English Circa 1876
